American Heart Association Shares Jesse's Story

Former college soccer player Jesse Shea was in the best shape of his life when he had a stroke at 26. Jesse received physical, speech and occupational therapy, and did much more on his own. "For the first six months, if I was awake, I was rehabbing."

Jesse's new best friend also helped motivate his recovery: Sampson, an English mastiff. "Suddenly I had to take the dog out every 20 minutes. That got me going."

One year after his stroke, he ran a virtual half-marathon and raised more than $10,000 for the American Stroke Association.

Congratulations, Jesse, and thanks for your support!
